Event Description: Poland became a member of the European Union on May 1, 2004 spurring a new wave of robust economic growth for a country that was already a fast emerging market since moving to a market driven economy in 1989. With a population of 39 million Poland was by far the largest Central European entrant to the European Union in 2004. A rapidly growing private sector, strong trade performance, GDP forecast to grow by 4.4% in 2006 all indicate a potentially strong partner for US exporters and investors. Add to this a native Tennessean as US Ambassador in Warsaw, The Honorable Victor Ashe, former Mayor of Knoxville, and you could rightly conclude there has never been a better time for Tennessee companies to take a close look at business opportunities in Poland.
