Event Description: Negotiating an international sale or purchase agreement can be quite complex. There are many barriers to negotiating, such as language, common business practice and legal concerns.

A full understanding of commercial terms and their proper use is essential in avoiding some of the common pitfalls and dangers associated with international transactions. INCOTERMS provide the internationally accepted definitions of commercial terms.

Topics to be covered:

International negotiations

Terms of sale (commercial terms) vs. payment terms

The terminology of international trade (Incomers)

Which INCOTERMS to use

Cost associated with each term

Responsibility and obligations

Transfer of risk from seller to buyer

Responsibility for insurance

Proforma and commercial invoices

Packing list and other commercial documents

Exercises with INCOTERMS
