IBC Event: International Trade Update Highlighting Impacts on the Electric Vehicle and Manufacturing Sectors

The IBC, in partnership with Baker Donelson and the US Commercial Service, invites you to join us for an update on recent international trade actions and legislation, including the Inflation Reduction Act, CHIPS Act and Buy America Act and how they will impact businesses in the EV and manufacturing sectors.

Baker Donelson's international trade and national security specialist, Lee Smith, and US Commercial Service’s Senior International Trade Specialist, Patrick Spence, will lead the conversation.

Mr. Smith calls upon his nearly 20 years of experience handling international trade and national security matters to guide clients through the complex regulations, policy, and compliance issues encountered by global businesses. Prior to joining Baker Donelson, Mr. Smith served as the Acting Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement in the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) at the Department of Commerce, where he implemented and enforced U.S. national security regulations and policy related to dual-use commodities and technology controlled by Commerce. Prior to his role at BIS, Mr. Smith served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Negotiations in the International Trade Administration (ITA) where he managed policy decisions in antidumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) investigations, participated in FTA negotiations, and led the Commerce team in multilateral engagement on steel issues. Patrick Spence is a Senior International Trade Specialist with the U.S. Commercial Service, the international trade and investment promotion arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Additionally, Mr. Spence serves as the Global Team Leader for safety and security industry activities. Patrick came to the Commercial Service in 2008 from the Tennessee Small Business Development Center, where he was Director of the International Trade Center. He also served as a Civil Affairs Officer with the U.S. Army in Iraq and Afghanistan. Patrick possesses an MBA in International Business from Georgia State University and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Tennessee. More recently, he studied commercial tradecraft and European area studies at the U.S. Department of State's Foreign Service Institute.
