Ben Stein grew up working for his parents' small business, a summer camp called The Road Less Traveled. Prior to SMBX, he spent multiple years working at Square, helping small business transition to credit cards and software that would grow their business. During his time at Square he helped the organization scale from 250 employees to over 2000.Post Square, Ben joined Opendoor, which helps people buy and sell homes online. At Opendoor, Ben worked with realtors, banks, relocation providers and other channel partners to grow Opendoor.

As Director of Business Development at SMBX, Ben works directly with small and medium businesses and assists them through the underwriting and fundraising process.

SMBX makes investing in local businesses easy. Business owners can avoid giving away equity, awkward negotiating with family and friends, complex bank approval processes, and lengthy pitches to wealthy investors. The local community can invest to support their local businesses and then receive monthly payments until they are paid back principal + interest. Further, we allow businesses to leverage their existing customer base and give their following the opportunity to invest in them while actually seeing a regular monthly return for doing so, building their brand, and gaining new customers in the process.
