Our Chamber Midtown update will be held at Belmont University at the Crockett Center for Athletic Excellence. The event will begin with networking from 8:00-8:30 a.m. Coffee will be provided. The program will begin at 8:30 and will feature Bishoy Mikhail from the Chamber's research team presenting new data with the profile of the midtown area. After the research presentation, we will have a panel with executives from Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) to discuss the MLC Mission of Music: From Metadata to Music. Following the program, Belmont Athletics will be doing tours of the new athletic practice facility for all interested attendees.

MLC Mission of Music: From Metadata to Money

It’s a challenge most independent songwriters face — how to balance their creative endeavors with effectively managing the “business” side of their careers, and in particular, making sure they are capitalizing on all of the royalty streams that are available to them. During this panel, representatives from the Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC) will discuss how the organization started and grew during the pandemic, quickly began providing an additional revenue stream for mechanical royalties for streams and downloads, and the crucial role data quality plays in ensuring they receive all of those royalties. You’ll learn about:

How and why The MLC was created;
How the start-up met the challenges for building a team during the pandemic,
What The MLC does and its place in the overall royalty landscape;
The benefits of a free MLC membership and who should join;
The importance of data at The MLC and why data careers are important in any business; and
How the reach of the music business in Nashville goes beyond country music and labels!

The session will also feature one of Belmont’s own — a graduate of the Music Business program will share her experience working at The MLC to help songwriters collect all of the royalties they have earned and deserve!
