metadata compilation, royalties and accounting, ownership conflict resolution, and digital
strategy consulting), music publishers and songwriters services (YouTube asset management,
mechanical royalty administration, performance royalty administration, NMPA settlements),
record labels and recording artists/bands services (YouTube asset management, digital
distribution, sound recording performance royalty administration), film and TV company
services (YouTube asset management). Depending on the client and service provided,
Exploration charges between 10 and 20% of royalty earnings, and offers short-term contracts to
provide its clients with maximum freedom.
Exploration is a global company: the team consists of 60 employees worldwide, including a core
of 20 employees based in the United States. The company is headquartered in Los Angeles and
has offices in Nashville, New York, Berlin, and Manila. Exploration’s 24/7 customer service and
ability to work with data are unrivaled in the entertainment business. The company currently
represents publishing, label, and TV/film clients at YouTube, The Harry Fox Agency, Music
Reports Inc, CMRR, performing rights organizations (PROs) ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC,

Exploration was founded in 2013 by software developer Aaron Davis and music publishing
executive Rene Merideth, who continue to wholly, equally, and privately the company without
external funding. The two came from different worlds, but met on the rugby field: the sport’s
values of collectivity, support, and loyalty drive the founders who make the perfect team: Rene
has more than 20 years of experience in music publishing, and Aaron is a software engineer and
business developer. Together, they created Exploration’s unique proprietary software exclusively
available to their clients and dedicated to managing, organizing, and distributing catalog
metadata. Committed to educating and helping their clients as much as they can, Rene and Aaron
also wrote a book named ‘How The Music Business Works’, and the company issues a weekly
