Many students and their families have a hard time accessing and navigating the maze of public and private services. There may be ample resources in a community, but rarely is there someone on the ground who is dedicated full-time to connecting these resources with the students and families who need them most.

That's where CIS of Tennessee comes in! Our site coordinators are caring adults who work inside the school building all day, every day to eliminate barriers to student success—like chronic absence, food insecurity, homelessness, trauma, and so much more. We directly provide and broker services tailored to meet the unique needs of our students, families, and school partners, so every student, regardless of their race, zip code, or socioeconomic background, has what they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond.

OUR MISSION

At Communities In Schools® (CIS™), we surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

The difference CIS makes inside the school and in the lives of students

"Having CIS, especially given the circumstances of the past 18 months, has been invaluable to Wayne Co. High School and its families. There are so many individual children that have benefited from their contributions. Children with food instability, no electricity, no glasses, or countless other unmet needs that affect their ability to learn. CIS has the ability to connect with these families and build relationships one-on-one."
Jenilyn Sipes, Counselor at Wayne Co. High School
