Dr. Ebadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003 for promoting peace and protecting the rights of women and children in Iran and across the Middle East. Shirin is a human rights lawyer and was the first female judge in Iran. She believes that "human rights is a universal standard. It is a component of every religion, and every civilization."
