The Nashville region’s rapid growth highlights the demand for improvements to public transportation in the city. For decades, America's transportation system offered urban residents two primary options: private automobiles or public transit.
Today, elected leaders, businesses, and members of the public are working together to reshape Nashville’s regional transit system through the MTA/RTA nMotion transit planning process. Meanwhile, the public has embraced new transportation providers focused on shared-use mobility – transportation services that are shared among users including not only transit and taxis, but bike sharing, car sharing, carpooling, and more. How will these new modes affect fixed-route transit systems? How can cities shape the course of change to ensure that public transit investments connect to shared-use mobility options to optimize mobility for all users?
Moving Forward, a collaborative effort to develop a regional transportation solution, and TransitCenter, a national foundation devoted to improving public transportation, invite you to join a discussion around what these questions mean for Nashville and Middle Tennessee. A panel of leaders from the public, private, and non-profit sectors will share best practices and lessons from around the country.
