Engaging the community around a vision for transportation is the first important step in the process of creating a strategic plan, then getting the plan approved and ultimately implemented. Join us for a Moving Forward speaker series panel discussion with leaders from Salt Lake City, Raleigh and Indianapolis about their experiences in engaging key stakeholders and the general public around expanding transit options.
Speakers:
- Abby Albrecht, director of public policy, Salt Lake Chamber (Salt Lake City, UT)
- Salt Lake City has a successful mass transit system and is in the midst of a referendum to increase sales tax to expand transit, road projects and trails. Final results are scheduled to be announced November 17.
- Courtney Crowder, principal, Crowder Consulting Company (Raleigh, NC)
- Raleigh is considering a funding referendum in 2016 to build the region’s first light rail that would operate for 17 miles between Chapel Hill and East Durham.
- Mark Fisher, vice president, government relations and policy development, Indy Chamber (Indianapolis, IN)
- Indianapolis is applying for a federal “smart starts” grant to build the first phase of a 35-mile bus rapid transit (BRT line), the region’s first mass transit project.
Throughout the year, Moving Forward will bring national experts to Middle Tennessee to help our residents learn more about improving public transportation. Speaker series events are free and open to the public.
